We did it! On Sept 19, 2012 the Evanston Public Library Board of Trustees unanimously voted to assume responsibility for The Mighty Twig effective January 1, 2013. This is wonderful news for Twig patrons. Once the transition is complete, patrons will be able to send library “hold” materials to this location for pickup, return library materials here for check in, and seek the assistance of onsite library staff. Connie Henegan, former South Branch Manager, will manage the Chicago Main Public Library -- and the volunteers who have served you so well will continue to be an important part of the team. EPL Friends will join the EPL Board and staff in fundraising to support this expansion of library services.
The Mighty Twig, funded by EPL Friends, was a temporary experiment, designed to prove that neighborhood services are valued, needed, and necessary. Our experiment was a success thanks to your support and patronage. Even though library systems have been hit hard throughout the country, here in Evanston, together with you and the Evanston Public Library, we've proven that we do what it takes to keep innovation in library services alive and well.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who helped make this happen.
